Why do we not see chain near falls in matches anymore?
You know, where two wrestlers would go counter for counter and have five or six 2 counts in a row. Then, they would have a standoff and everyone would applaud. I know WWE was never big on this, but WCW would do it occasionally and ECW seemed to do it a lot with their better technical wrestlers.
Why do you think that we don't see these feats of wrestling ability and athleticism in WWE and TNA today, and do you wish we'd see it more often?
G.O.A.T., how am I lying? I just want to know why they don't do it anymore. I really enjoy when they do it.
No, I didn't see Judgment Day. The last PPV I saw was Armaggedon.
Agreed that WWE don't seem to book their matches now using "chain style" wrestling. It could be their version of "progress" by reinventing the WWE style of wrestling with less focus on the technical side.It was used more when the Cruiserweight division was active.Although at Judgment Day, the Y2J vs HBK match was an excellent example of main event chain wrestling.
TNA use chain wrestling quite often especially in the X Division matches. My favorite in TNA, AJ Styles worked chain wrestling with Kurt Angle and Christian Cage at last year's Slammiversary in the King of the Mountain match. At Final Resolution 2006, AJ used the same style against NJPW's Hiroshi Tanahashi.
This style though is an integral part of Japanese wrestling, in the AJPW, NJPW and Pro NOAH promotions.Holds, counters and nearfalls are all a big regular part of this classy style of technical wrestling.Check out Pro NOAH's whizzkid KENTA vs Yoshinobu Kanemura for ther GHC title.
